LaFundició promotes situated processes to collectively institute material and symbolic practices, forms of relationship and knowledges, understood as common-pool resources. Here you can see what we’re up to, the processes we’re sustaining, the practices we’re engaging in, and the places and territories we currently inhabit.

Through these situated processes, we reflect on the role of art and culture as spheres for the collective production of meaning and subjectivity, woven into the fabric of life and material forms of production. From this inquiry, we experiment with contentious and communal cultural practices in order to imagine worlds that account for interdependent relationships—between individuals and between them and the socio-ecosystems they inhabit.

Founded in 2006, LaFundició grounds its practice in the city of l’Hospitalet, especially since 2013, when it opened the Prado11 space in the Bellvitge neighborhood. From there, we began to inhabit the territory and to connect with its community fabrics in order to collectively build mutual support networks for the sustenance and care of life.

The city of l’Hospitalet is a paradigmatic territory of urban peripheries—not only because of its urban layout, history, and socio-economic and cultural composition, but also due to its relationship with the Barcelona metropolis. At the same time, its position between the Llobregat River delta and the Collserola mountain range is a singular trait. From this place, we ask: what are its potentialities to foster interwoven material and symbolic practices toward an ecosocial and feminist transition?

PROCESSES

Processes are our unit of time. A sustained period of collective transformation—of both the imaginaries and material living conditions of the places we inhabit. Processes that sometimes accelerate and sometimes lie fallow, centring the power of affect. Processes that are all part of the same unfolding becoming.

PLACES

We understand our creative practice as a way of growing roots together—grounded in relationships and the collective transformation of the territories we inhabit. Every process we initiate in the places where we become neighbours stems from a situated, ecosystems-based perspective of the territories and the people who inhabit them.

DOINGS

We do things. We do things by paying attention to the doings we put into practice, reclaiming the power of ways of doing that are undervalued by the division between productivity and life-sustaining work, or by the stigmatization of worldviews external to the modern, patriarchal and capitalist project.
