Next Wednesday, November 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at La Virreina, we will continue weaving baskets and stories in the third
Rromano kidipen
with Lachó Bají Calí. Rromano kidipen is proposed as an opportunity to meet, converse, and share knowledge and is part of the work processes of the
CICdB
(City Interpretation Center from the Barraca) initiative, which promotes the restitution of the memory of the old informal settlements of L’Hospitalet; and in turn is included in the research platform residing in La Virreina LAB Topographies of Urban Discrepancy, which proposes to trace a certain genealogy of urban conflict in the periphery of Barcelona.
During Rromano kidipen («Gypsy cultural encounter» in Romani), Rafi Fernández, a member of Lachó Bají Calí, will share his knowledge about the elaboration of kornìćǎ («baskets» in Romani) with wicker and other vegetable fibers, an activity currently at risk of disappearing, historically linked to the economic and cultural ways of life of the Roma people. And we will remember the life of the former neighbors of La Cadena, one of the neighborhoods that, together with La Bomba and Can Pi, were located south of the Gran Via in L’Hospitalet. After the demolition of the shacks, the Roma population, which mostly occupied this settlement, was relocated to prefabricated barracks in the same place.
Also, the edition of four wonderful posters will be presented that collect images and texts produced or compiled in collaboration with the Lachó Bají Calí association and four illustrations by the comic author
Marcos Prior
, elaborated in part with information collected during the two previous experiences of Rromano kidipen the neighborhoods of
Gornal
and
Florida
(Hospitalet).
