Next Tuesday, September 6, at 6 PM and in the
Bellvitge Library
, we present issue 0 of the newsletters of the
Center for Interpretation of the City from the Shack
(CICdB), a periodical publication that deals with the memory of the shantytowns of L’Hospitalet. This issue is a portrait—made through texts, images, and documents—of the Soriano Villanueva and Salinas Gil families, explained by Narciso Soriano Salinas, a descendant of both families who spent his childhood in the neighborhood of La Bomba.
The history of the shantytowns, the informal settlements in the metropolitan area of Barcelona and in L’Hospitalet specifically, has often been forgotten; we think it should be recovered, since it is, among many other things, a history of struggle and dignity. The CICdB is therefore a space—promoted by LaFundició—for the study and dissemination of the memory of the shacks, and also for the organization of former neighbors and all those interested in this part of our collective history.
The event coincides with the celebration these days of the Bellvitge festival, so you have an extra reason to come 😉
