DELTA (CULTURE — ECOLOGY — ECONOMY)

Conference on imaginaries, socio-ecosystems and agropolitan territories

Dates: December 10 and 11, 2021

Location: Keras Buti Chalmeta (c. Ulldecona, 26, Barcelona. <M> L10S Foc) and Les Cabasses (camí Ferran Puig s/n, Sant Boi

)

Registration: hola@lafundicio.net

The different modes of production require specific material transformations of the landscape. These transformations, and the ways in which we inhabit the territories, are conditioned by a series of stories, imaginaries and cultural practices. In turn, reciprocally, the visions of the world that are constructed through these aesthetic practices are determined by the different spatial arrangements. Thus, the material production and the symbolic production of space are related in a dialectical way. Every landscape is, therefore, a
cultural landscape
.

The DELTA (CULTURE — ECOLOGY — ECONOMY) conference aims to reflect on what relationships and socio-ecosystemic processes occur in agropolitan territories. Likewise, we want to pay special attention to what cultural and aesthetic practices do and what function they have (from a political perspective) within socio-ecosystemic frameworks and processes. We propose to analyze, on the one hand, the relationship of culture with the spatial and temporal arrangements of capitalism and the way in which these organize ecosystems, and on the other, to open a space to imagine, from critical positions, what alternatives (cultural, social, ecological, economic…) we can build collectively.

These conferences are closely linked to the launch of Les Cabasses, a 2-hectare farm located in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat dedicated on the one hand to the ecological production of vegetables and on the other, in an interrelated way, to the symbolic production and knowledge of rururban areas. Therefore, we want to situate the debates and the thinking generated during the conference in the specific context of the Llobregat delta, a characteristically agropolitan territory where we find everything from large logistics infrastructures such as Barcelona airport, to natural areas, passing through urban, industrial and agricultural spaces.

Ultimately, the conferences also want to be an instrument to add to the movements for the defense of the territory. We hope that this meeting will serve to build new alliances and incorporate the role of culture both in understanding the ways in which the fabric of life unfolds in this territory, and in the struggles for its defense, as well as in the construction of social and environmental alternatives.

PROGRAM:

Friday, December 10 — Keras Buti Chalmeta

6 to 8:30 p.m.

Talks and debate with:

Working group on hybrid ecologies of the Delta del Llobregat: Transdisciplinary research office that promotes artistic creation, mediation and experimentation projects located in the Delta del Llobregat, with the aim of reconsidering urban life from an approach that takes into account non-human agency and building stories that facilitate new forms of understanding, relationship and responsibility in a diverse world.

Fran Quiroga: Transdisciplinary researcher. His lines of work include the intersections between activism, art, social participation and the commons. He is a technician of the ReVOLTA network of research groups in agroecology and currently collaborates with the Laboratorio Ecosocial do Barbanza, a research and action space that seeks to think about those historical managements that can be replicated in the future from an ecosocial perspective.

LaFundició: Cooperative that promotes collective, situated and ‘controversial’ processes of knowledge construction, cultural practices and forms of relationship, understood as resources for common use. It currently promotes the Les Cabasses project, a farm located in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat dedicated to agroecological production, thought and rururban cultural practices.

Saturday, December 11 — Les Cabasses
