Guided Tour and Work Session with Bestraten-Hormias and the UIC
10.2.14

parterre

Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11, we will take a guided tour of the Bellvitge neighborhood with Sandra Bestraten and Emili Hormias, an architecture studio based in Bellvitge. During the visit, they will talk to us about the construction and urban aspects of the Bellvitge neighborhood, of which they are very knowledgeable.

The visit will end with a meeting and work session with a group of Architecture students from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya —of which Sandra and Emili are professors— with the children who live near LaFundició’s physical space. This session is the beginning of a collaborative process aimed at rehabilitating and managing the parterre adjacent to the staircase where our space is located.

These parterres are a very characteristic feature of Bellvitge: they are small plots located next to the entrances of the blocks, which each community manages independently. It is therefore a potentially common space, although the way in which neighbors have managed them and the typology that they have shaped over the years have transformed them into landscaped spaces, closed to passers-by and therefore more like a private space, even though they are very close to the public road.

Through collaboration with our neighbors, the UIC students, and the Bestraten-Hormias architecture studio, we want to explore the potential of these parterres as public and common spaces, as well as the role of children in the construction of the city.

For the guided tour, we will meet at 3:00 PM at the Mercat exit of the Bellvitge metro stop (line 1). If you are interested in joining the parterre rehabilitation process, come to our space around 5:00 PM.
