The Artibarri network is organizing the seventh edition of its debate conference, entitled Neighborhoods and cultural emergencies: areas, opportunities and challenges, next Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, at the Centre Cívic Zona Nord (Ciutat Meridiana, Barcelona). The conference aims to “present and discuss with participants and attendees the possibilities and contradictions that arise from the cultural and social policies implemented by the public administration (Community Development Plans, Neighborhood Plans, Environment Plans, etc.)”. As some point out, Aída Sánchez de Serdio has theorized extensively on this aspect, and just yesterday, we attended a lecture by Carles Guerra in which he reflected on this issue of “social espionage”: “while on the one hand these interventions offer possibilities for action and tactical rechanneling of resources by local agents of civil society, it is also true that they involve an appropriation of initiatives that run the risk of being neutralized politically and socially through this institutionalization.”
Well, this is the matter, and we will be there on Saturday in Espai Circular 1 trying to reflect on the Uses and contradictions of participation, especially as a result of our experience with the projecte3*, together with Carola Castellà from IGOP, Sergi Bernal and Albert Gerard (from festival FARTS) and Xavier Urbano (from Centre Cívic Zona Nord), moderated by Jordi Pascual and Xavi Pérez.
