The website of

Subtramas

was launched last week. It is a project by Diego del Pozo, Montse Romaní, and Virgina Villaplana, who define it as a “research and co-learning platform for collaborative audiovisual production practices.”

Among the various sections of the website, you can find a documentary video essay that “compiles a set of theoretical-practical experiences that reflect on the collaborative dimension in the production of audiovisual stories.” According to its authors, the essay is a “combination of voices and images, layers and subplots, that promote a territory of intersection between art, participatory democracy, education, and daily life.” In that video essay, you can see fragments of the interview that Montse Romaní did with us, along with Oriol Fontdevila, about the project

; however, the full interview can be seen in the corresponding section of the website, where you can find all the interviews with the numerous projects, people, and groups interviewed by the team of  Subtramas between 2009 and 2011. We warn you that our interview is a lecture of over an hour! So there will be many perfectly dispensable parts, but don’t miss the stellar appearances of Candela in the video.

More extensively, Subtramas is presented as “an artistic investigation that is framed in the field of study of digital visual culture and in how, through images, ways of seeing, imagining, and producing representations, social practices and power relations are articulated,” whose particularity is “the analysis of those works that, from collective cinema and the visual arts, have questioned the relations between knowledge and power, promoting a territory of intersection between art, participatory democracy, education, and daily life.” The Subtramas project was selected in the 2011-2012 call for the Research Residency program of the
Center for Studies
of the
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía
