ShiftSpace: the Town Square
15.7.07

ShiftSpace is an open-source layer that we can place on any website and edit to our liking. At the moment, the editor does not have many tools, but give it time. To give you a better idea of how it works, take a look at the screencast that the ShiftSpace people have on their website (pay attention to the example they use to show us the usefulness of the invention, haha!). ShiftSpace is “simply” a Firefox extension, created by Dan Phiffer and Mushon Zer-Aviv with the intention of making the ‘owner-centric’ cyberspace a public space; paraphrasing the image they themselves use, it is about building a ‘town square’ on the hyper-shopping center that the WWW has become. The project has been commissioned by Rhizome.org for this 2007-2008 course.
