During the last election campaign, many promises were made, not all as spectacular as the famous 400 euro check. From the electoral quagmire, we rescued this promise from the PSOE to extend the income loan system to students of undergraduate university degrees, which until now only “benefited” students of official master’s degrees. The measure is advertised as progressive because, supposedly, it will allow people with lower incomes to pursue higher education.

Recently, Anthony Davies explained to us the increasingly serious situation of English university students who are forced to work for several years, once they have finished their studies, in order to pay off the debt that these have generated; when their time at university does not translate into access to well-paid jobs -something that is very common in our country- the indebtedness leads them to bankruptcy. Thus, it is not surprising that the English Ministry for Children, Schools and Families wanted to implement “financial literacy” programs, as we commented a few months ago. Now comes to mind that saying that says: “When you see your neighbor’s beard being cut, soak yours“…
