13.3.18

Gira_Queirolo_Barcelona

Next Monday, March 19 at the
Institut Eduard Fontserè
, starting at 5:30 PM, we will present, together with
La Hidra Cooperativa
, the book How is a Public Enemy Constructed? The Latin gangs  edited by
Traficantes de Sueños
. We will be accompanied by its author, the sociologist Luca Queirolo Palmas, and José González, director of the participatory documentary

Buscando respeto

.Both the book and the film that we present address the construction of the phenomenon of “Latin gangs” by critically examining the interests of all the actors involved in it (young people, educators, police, politicians…).We will also be accompanied by young students from the Institut Eduard Fontserè, whom we have invited to read the book and share their impressions on the topics they address during the presentation and with the authors of the book and the film. We thank the management and teaching staff of the institute for their complicity and full willingness.
The purpose of the invitation was to know the opinion of the young people, residents of the neighborhood of La Florida, who suffer forms of racism linked to the demonization in the public sphere of people of migrant and racialized origin. And at the same time, break the separation between “researchers” and “researched”, between “subjects” and “objects” of research, and promote the collective and situated construction of knowledge, with young people and from the periphery.
Tomorrow, Wednesday the 14th at 7 PM we will screen and discuss the documentary at the Espai Jove of the Centre Municipal Ana Díaz Rico.
