We Present to You the Player Characters (PCs) of ‘Bellvitge Live Role-Playing’
17.5.13

What are these people doing in the photograph? Who are they? Could this scene be part of 'Bellvitge live role-playing?'

No, it’s not these people in the photo. The PCs of ‘Bellvitge live role-playing’ are fictional, but in truth they could be many “real” people. It could be you. By the way: What are these people doing in the photograph? Who are they? Could this scene be part of ‘Bellvitge live role-playing?’

We begin to “open source”
Bellvitge live role-playing
with the presentation of the Player Characters (PCs) who will star in the game. As you may recall,  Bellvitge live role-playing is a role-playing game set in Bellvitge throughout its 50 years of history, which we are developing together with the association
Necronomicon’s
of L’Hospitalet and which is open to the collaboration of anyone who is interested in the history of the neighborhood and/or in role-playing games 😉

As we were saying, the characters we propose (if you participate in the development of the game you can modify them, eliminate them or add new PCs) want to offer a representative image of the social and cultural diversity of the neighborhood, but surely this representation can be improved and made more complex!

In the history of the game we will meet the PCs in the first scene and the same characters will be maintained during the rest of each game, so we will see their individual and collective evolution throughout the history of the neighborhood.

We remind you that we will be on Fridays from 6 to 8 in the afternoon in the physical space of LaFundició in Bellvitge working on the development and production of the game and that you can join at any time and contribute your knowledge and skills. Without further ado, we present to you:

María del Carmen, is 10 years old in 1969, when the action of Bellvitge live role-playing begins. She belongs to a family that supports the Franco regime -her father is a civil guard- and when she reaches youth she will rebel against the patriarchal authority and against the system, partly due to the social repression suffered by her homosexuality, adopting positions close to anarcho-syndicalism.

José Antonio, later nicknamed “el Picolo” due to his father’s profession (he is María del Carmen’s older brother) is 13 years old in 1969. Later he will work as a
esplai
monitor, but his life will suffer a traumatic turn in the 80s: like his sister, José Antonio will rebel against his paternal authority, but instead of focusing on militancy and political activism like her, he will fall into drug addiction and crime.

Petra is 13 years old in 1969, she is a young woman who has recently emigrated from Extremadura and has come to Catalonia (alone, without her family) to look for work. Later she will earn a living sewing pieces of clothing at home, a form of submerged work that was not unusual in the 70s among women. Her passion is flamenco dancing and throughout her life she will fight to be able to develop it.

Joan is 17 years old in 1969, he is the son of one of the pagesos (peasants) who cultivated the agricultural land on which the Bellvitge neighborhood was built. Confronted with his father, he rejects the rural life and culture, which is why he pressures him to sell the land to the construction company CIDESA and supports the urban development of Bellvitge, which he sees as the arrival of modernity to his life. Later, disillusioned, he will become an environmental activist.

Antonio is 16 years old in 1969, from a very young age he will get involved in neighborhood struggles, trade unionism and will work in the SEAT factory like so many other residents of Bellvitge. He is originally from the shacks of
la Bomba
, a descendant of the first migratory waves of the 30s and 40s. A socialist militant in clandestinity, with the arrival of democracy he will join the party’s management ranks and join the local council.

Mariano Carvalho has just graduated from the General Police Corps at the beginning of the game. In 1969 he is 19 years old and acts as an infiltrated agent of the
Social Political Brigade
. Later, during the 70s and 80s he will infiltrate drug trafficking networks. Already retired in 2012, he will sympathize with the neighborhood’s demands against the cuts in neoliberal austerity policies.

What do you think of the PCs from Bellvitge live role-playing? Are you missing any archetype? How do you imagine their appearance? We invite you to participate directly in the creation of characters by coming in person to the LaFundició space any Friday between 6 and 8 in the afternoon, or in the comments of this blog or on social networks.
