A few weeks ago, the catalog of artUOM was published, an experience promoted by the Universitat Oberta per a Majors (UOM), which is part of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) and the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró (FPJM). The catalog/report compiles the work carried out by the artUOM students in the workshops-seminar at the FPJM during the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, coordinated by Javier Rodrigo, educator and independent researcher, and by the coordinators of the Didactic Area of the FPJM Joana Maria Riera in 2005 and Katia Martorell in 2006/2007, which focused on the foundation’s exhibitions. In fact, the catalog itself is part of that work during the last year and perhaps the best example of how the workshops function, based on direct participation, collaboration and negotiation, and on the non-hierarchical nature of knowledge (that of the students and that of the teachers-conductors of the workshop); thus, the contents of the catalog have been elaborated, negotiated and agreed upon by students, teachers, FPJM technicians, designers… In short, an experience that proposes ways of organizing educational processes in the institutional space of the Museum that enable cultural participation, aimed at a group often forgotten by the pedagogical departments of art centers.
