Conference: ‘Sewing from an Economic, Social, and Local Artistic Perspective’
2.3.11

The collective
Costureras Salvajes
-with whom we are developing these days the workshop
Sewing and chatting
, which we talked about in the previous entry- and the sewing workshop of La Rosa Negra, in order to share knowledge and experiences, invite the sewing collectives of Barcelona and various sewerxs to participate in the conference
Sewing from an economic, social, and local artistic perspective
, which will take place this coming Sunday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at
Can Masdeu
.

They propose “a space-meeting to reflect on textile exploitation at the local level, the devaluation of manual or artisanal work, the need for a new way of understanding the consumption of clothing and its reuse or customization detached from Fashion.

On the other hand, they organize a practical-creative workshop “for anyone who wants to learn four basic tools to start sewing and value the artisanal and creative part of sewing.” We attest to the sewing skills of the Costureras Salvajes, who can perfectly teach you to sew both a tear and a rip. You can bring all the materials you think are necessary, and in the workshop you will find the basics and some material in case you forget.

Because La Rosa Negra has been the “center of operations” (and the place where the proposal for the Sewing Cooperative Teresa Claramunt) was initiated during the past year, and knowing how much it costs to maintain self-managed spaces and activities, these conferences will contribute to the self-management of both collectives.
