Hybrid Playground
16.5.08

We hastily link the information that arrived a few days ago by email (and that had been lost in some mailbox) about this project by Clara Boj and Diego Díaz (
lalalab.org
) that seems to be reaching a fairly advanced stage of development and that is presented this afternoon at
Intermediae
.
Hybrid Playground
is an artistic project that tries to integrate tools and strategies of physical games and video games in playgrounds. Although the concept of the design is entirely the responsibility of the artists, it responds to the user experience of the children, following a very “consumer-driven design” development strategy.

Although the idea of an urban space limited for the development of a specific activity (to be developed by children or whoever) is not entirely convincing, what we find interesting about the project is the hybridization of digital and physical environments in a public space, and we wonder what possibilities the technologies used offer to subvert precisely that idea of enclosure and controlled space.

The presentation comes in “meeting” format under the heading “Is play the work of children?” (!?) and you can find the complete program here.
