Next Tuesday, March 6 at 6 PM, we are opening a very special exhibition at the Bellvitge-el Gornal Cultural Center that showcases the textile work developed by various groups in L’Hospitalet and in Santiago de Chile and promoted by LaFundició and
Nido Textil
, separately or in collaboration.
These are collectively made tapestries that reflect on or address various social or political issues linked to a historical moment or a specific territory:
Homage to the collective work of UNCTAD III
is a tapestry sewn in 2016 by the Community of Practice of the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center in Santiago de Chile, at the proposal of the Nido Textil collective and with the collaboration of the documentary filmmakers
War Diaries
, which is a restitution, and at the same time a tribute, to the disappeared tapestry embroidered by the Embroiderers of Isla Negra on the occasion of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development organized in Santiago de Chile in 1972 during the government of Allende.
What will the cities of the future eat? It is a tapestry made by residents of Bellvitge during the residency in the physical space of LaFundició in 2017 by Daniela Pizarro, a member of the Nido Textil collective, and which addresses issues related to the food sovereignty of the territories, in relation to the area of
Cal Trabal
, where the last agricultural lands of L’Hospitalet are located.
Finally, Goodbye to the blocks? is a tapestry sewn by the Women’s Group of the Ana Díaz Rico Municipal Center and residents of La Florida over the last two years at the proposal of LaFundició and in which Daniela Pizarro also collaborated during her stay. The tapestry-map, in which the mola technique used by some native peoples of Colombia and Panama has been used, represents the blocks of La Florida and reflects on their past and their future.
During the exhibition, the films
Gas Escape
and
Recipe Book
will be screened; the first is the work of the Chilean documentary filmmaker Bruno Salas and deals with the connection of artistic and cultural practices with the UNCTAD conference of 1972, and the second, by the Chilean documentary filmmakers collective War Diaries, filmed during their residency in the physical space of LaFundició in the summer of 2017, reflects the life trajectory of different residents of Bellvitge and La Florida through the recipes they prepare in front of their camera.
We are waiting for you!
