Four Bitches
26.6.07

CuatroPerras is essentially a blog where you can find detailed, updated, and personalized information on calls for competitions, scholarships, and other resources and avenues for promotion for young artists and curators, presented as “a possible solution to some of the difficulties involved in professional development as an artist,” which are not few. The news is that it has recently started operating, as they tell us in Comentarte.

There is something about competitions that is very annoying, in the idea of competition; therefore, scholarships and competitions come to fill the lack of other types of initiatives perhaps more…propositive and somewhat less…endogamic. This is something that those responsible for CuatroPerras seem to be aware of, which could lead us to ask ourselves, how to assume the apparent contradiction between a critical discourse against this type of production structures and the operation of CuatroPerras? It seems clear that it is essential to build (collaboratively) tools that improve in some sense the conditions in which our work is carried out within the cultural field, however, it also seems necessary to us to calibrate the degree of connivance with the mechanisms of precariousness so as not to fall into the reproduction of the structures that precisely require and encourage precariousness. CuatroPerras poses this dilemma for us.
