‘Cohabitar Entre-‘ is Ending
4.4.17

Cohabitar entre-
officially ends on April 26. Until then, and starting next Thursday, April 6, we will be showing various work processes that have been developed over the past few months on the ground floor 0 of the art center, in collaboration with diverse people, groups, and institutions. You have all the information about the projects presented here: http://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/centredart/ca/content/exposició-i-presentació-dels-resultats-dels-processos-de-treball-de-cohabitar-entre

Perhaps we do not currently have the necessary distance to assess the true extent of what Cohabitar entre- has meant, to what extent we have been able to manage an art center with the various territories that cross it. However, we can affirm that Cohabitar entre- has been for us—using an expression as hackneyed as it is true—an intense experience.

With its successes and failures, Cohabitar entre- has tried to bring into play certain ways of doing things in the production and distribution of the sensible that would diverge to some degree from the hegemonic logics in the field of contemporary art. Ways of doing that, ultimately, aim to deepen forms of cultural democracy.

We insist, with its successes and failures: Perhaps one of these has been, from the outset, not adequately measuring the time needed to consolidate styles, ways of doing, or forms of organization that root and intertwine contemporary artistic practices in other spheres of the social beyond the field of art itself with the aim of effectively redistributing material resources and social and symbolic capital.

Perhaps we are in an era in which it is pertinent to ask how relevant contemporary artistic practices can be, however critical and radical their forms, if their modes of production and circulation are not radically democratized. That is why in LaFundició—and let it be noted that these opinions are our own and not of the entire #Cohabitarentre team formed by
Idensitat
,
Sinapsis
and
Transductores
, in addition to ourselves—we are not interested in mediation as a task of translation and bringing artistic practices closer, carried out by a department of a cultural institution that would remain intact. In fact, this very idea of mediation, which is not so far removed from access policies, does not convince us much, and that is why we prefer to think and act in terms of institutionality and forms of relationship. But anyway, there will be time to continue reflecting on all these things. In the meantime, we encourage you to join us next Thursday from 6:30 p.m., as well as to attend the rest of the activities that are still to come between now and April 26.
