Barcelona Toolbar (Sic)
18.7.07

If you plan to visit Santiago de Chile before August 12, or you are in the area, you can visit the Barcelona Toolbar exhibition, or what’s left of it, at the Matucana100 cultural center. The event is organized by La Capella (La Virreina) and is part of a broader program of cultural exchanges between the city of Barcelona and other cities around the world, directed by Martí Peran (of the program, not the world). This year is the fourth edition after Bangkok, Jerusalem, and Reykjavik, and it has been curated by Valentí Roma and YP, who apparently went together but remained distinct. On the one hand, Valentí Roma has selected a heterogeneous series of ’emerging’ artists more or less randomly, while the YP, with more criteria, have selected an equally heterogeneous series of collectives and individuals who would swarm the margins of the city’s cultural scene; yes, LaFundició is one of them, you will find the complete list with their respective links in the pdf that you can download here. While the work of the artists in charge of Valentí Roma was shown in a standard exhibition format, the work of the collectives selected by YP could be consulted through productions, documents, videos, and various merchandising objects arranged in a space for this purpose and with which, apparently, an enthusiastic Chilean public razed to the cleptomaniac paroxysm, said without any rancor.

A couple of very cool photos of the expo after the read the rest of this entry.
