Textile Art, Politics, and Subsistence Economies in Laurel31
11.10.24

Next week, we’re launching the Textile Art, Politics, and Subsistence Economies in Laurel 31 meetings, a mutual support space for textile initiatives in the La Florida neighborhood.

This is a series of workshops and dialogue spaces to learn about, share, discuss, and exchange knowledge about collective textile initiatives that build community and establish essential social struggles.

Meetings-workshops with Dani Negri

We will start the cycle with two days accompanied by the artist, textile artist, and community art researcher Dani Negri.

On Thursday, October 17 at 6 p.m., we will meet in Pomezia for the presentation-workshop of her book “Social and individual self-care at the service of the heart in times of war rehabilitation.” We will chat about self and collective care while we sew. Bring, if you have, a simple sewing kit, scissors, needles, threads, or pieces of fabric.

On Saturday, October 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., also in Pomezia, conversation-workshop “Arpilleras, educating against oblivion.” We will talk about the role of textile practice as a political practice, about the defense of human rights, in the case of the arpilleras of the resistance in Chile, and its current possibilities. Bring your sewing kit, if you have one!
