Ars Electronica: a New Cultural Economy
7.9.08

The 2008 edition of

Ars Electronica

in Linz (Austria) started three days ago, and this year it has the explicit title: “
A New Cultural Economy: The Limits of Intellectual Property
”. It seems that the objective is not only to discuss the management of intellectual property, but to understand the role of culture in the current economic framework.

This is not a new issue; the relationships between culture and the economy have long been the object of special attention, perhaps because of the consequences or political implications of these relationships. However, as Maria
ptqk
pointed out a few days ago, the remarkable thing about the case at hand is that the debate has moved to the top tier of electronic culture.

The festival program includes a symposium that was held yesterday and the day before, and from which the corresponding videos will supposedly be available. At the moment, the videos are not available, but you can download the various conferences and roundtables in mp3 format here or subscribe to the festival’s podcast.
