The day after tomorrow, Monday, July 19, the

Collective Architecture Meeting 2010

will begin, held in Pasaia (Guipúzcoa). The event, organized by
Recetas Urbanas
and
Straddle3
and collectives and organizations from the Basque context such as:
Lur Paisajistak
,
M-etxea
and
Jaizkibia
, is described as “
an opportunity to experience housing prototypes and equipment in public space, as well as the recycling of disused spaces, in this case
Ziriza
, the central place of the meeting“, as well as “exchanging practices and sharing reflections and knowledge with citizens interested in the proposed themes and activities.” On the other hand,
Collective Architectures
is defined as “a network of people and collectives interested in the participatory construction of the urban environment” that “provides an instrumental framework for collaboration in different types of projects and initiatives“.

It can be said that Collective Architectures is an extremely informal and precarious network that appears and disappears depending on contingent needs, and the encounters and affinities that occur between some of its nodes; perhaps that contingent and informal character is one of its potentialities. In fact, the network (or the idea of the network) has an equally eventual “origin” as we already explained in this entry, which we published on the occasion of the second edition of the meeting.

If anything has changed in this third edition, it is, on the one hand, the scale – which translates into an almost unmanageable number of workshops, presentations and activities – and on the other, it seems to us, the decision with which the idea and the need for this network is promoted. It is understood that this need is a matter of operability and that the network can promote more effective forms of mutualism and collaboration. We’ll see if this is the case.

We will very briefly explain our work on Tuesday morning within the very tight program of presentations, and although we have not signed up for any of the workshops (simply out of laziness) we will surely attend some of those that especially interest us.
