We are starting a new journey in the neighborhoods of Bellvitge and el Gornal (L’Hospitalet) with the association
Lachó Bají Calí
: the Escola Popular Keras Buti! Ole with ole! Keras Buti (“we do things” in Romani) is a popular school that aims to intertwine the symbolic production and knowledge with the material conditions of existence, that is, with the economy.
More specifically, we propose to explore the ways in which popular knowledge (traditional or not) linked to the Roma community of Bellvitge and el Gornal or the rural environment can be sustained through a social and solidarity economy of a cooperative base that can generate self-employment.
It is about restoring, continuing, and updating popular spaces for self-training and collective construction of knowledge such as the ateneus and others dedicated to leisure, work, and learning, linking them with cultural practices inserted in the daily life of the neighborhoods. On the other hand, the rural is inscribed in its own past, since these were built on farmland and very close geographically to Cal Trabal (the last agricultural area of L’Hospitalet) and the entire
Parque Agrario del Baix Llobregat
as a whole. Moreover, the rural is found in the origins and biography of many of the residents of Bellvitge and el Gornal.
Lachó Bají Calí is an association from Gornal, founded in 1991 by a group of women with the purpose of offering support to the Roma community of L’Hospitalet and promoting their cultural practices and ways of life, with which we have been collaborating periodically since 2014 in various work processes such as:
Lachó Bají
or
Rromano kidipen
.
The activities of the Escola Popular Keras Buti begin next week with classes to learn to drive, read, and write, a classroom where you can get your license while learning to read and write, and whatever else comes up. From Monday to Thursday in three shifts: from 10:30 to 11:15 am, from 11:15 am to 12 pm and from 12 to 12:45 pm in the premises of the Lachó Bají Calí association.
