Training Activities in Aulabierta (and II)
27.11.07

The Fine Arts faculties seem to ignore in their study plans a very important part of the professional life of future artists: the one that has to do with invoices, tax obligations, commissions… that is, the one that distances students from the romantic figure of the artist and their vocational character. It is precisely this vocation (added in some cases to ambition and egotism, why deny it) that cultural industries use, and by extension the different economic sectors with which they intersect, to sustain “contractual” relationships that are dramatically unfavorable for cultural workers, many of whom come from the Fine Arts faculties. Almost everyone has experienced or is experiencing this situation, on one side of the equation or the other, or both at the same time (what they call ‘self-exploitation’).

Well, the people at Aulabierta are organizing a seminar on December 11, given by Eva Moraga Guerrero (with degrees in Law and Fine Arts) that addresses the problems of this type that artists will probably encounter in their future professional practice, as well as points out possible solutions. The most remarkable thing about this whole matter may be understanding how the self-managed action of the Fine Arts faculty students of Granada can cover an important training gap in the official curriculum. This, on the other hand, can lead us to the debate about to what extent it is positive that ‘citizen initiative’, as it were, makes up for shortcomings that should be covered and ensured by the public administration… we’ll leave it there.

All the info about the seminar on the Aulabierta page.
