We talk about livestock farming in the agropolitan area of Barcelona with: Cayetano García (shepherd), Tornen les esquelles, and neighbours from La Marina.
Next Thursday, at 5 PM, we will meet at the Keras Buti agroecological shop and community space (c. Ulldecona, 24) with Cayetano García, one of the last shepherds in the Barcelona agropolitan area.
While we chat, we’ll be carding wool from the sheep of Collserola. The collective Tornen les esquelles will show us how to do it.
From Maresme, through Collserola, to Baix Llobregat, as in many other places, livestock activity fulfilled an agro-ecosystemic function around Barcelona. Herds of sheep were integrated into local economies and even into the rhythms and life of the city at certain times of the year.
Cayetano and the residents of La Marina who wish to share their memories will talk to us about this.
