{"id":5752,"date":"2015-02-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/noticia\/los-jovenes-de-barrio\/"},"modified":"2015-02-20T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T00:00:00","slug":"los-jovenes-de-barrio","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/noticia\/los-jovenes-de-barrio\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighborhood Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2858 \" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/_imported\/26_1656614329.jpg\" width=\"396\" height=\"291\"><\/p>\n<p>Regarding <em><br \/>\n  <strong>Street Dogs<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em>, the scene of&nbsp;<em><br \/>\n  <strong>Bellvitge live role-playing<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em>, and in relation to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/blog\/2015\/02\/14\/centre-esclat-bellvitge-1978\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last entry<\/a> of this same blog, we wrote this elsewhere:<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab<em>It is precisely in the late 70s and early 80s when socio-cultural spaces aimed at young people were created \u2014such as open centers, community centers, and <\/em>esplais<em>\u2014 that soon established agreements and conventions with public administrations and coordinated to carry out assistance tasks for populations considered at risk of social exclusion. It is at this moment when the idea that the street, which until then had been the main space for play and socialization for children and young people, was a dangerous place begins to be implemented and extended. It was therefore necessary to establish regulated and standardized spaces where the leisure time of children and young people was managed and controlled by adults, tasks that would be carried out by a whole series of technicians and professionals: educators and social workers, leisure time educators, street educators, esplai monitors, etc. From another point of view, we can understand that all these devices and knowledge significantly reduced the autonomy and capacities of children and young people to self-organize their leisure and their way of inhabiting the territory. It should also be noted that the neighborhood of <strong>Bellvitge<\/strong>, during the 60s and 70s, was not largely urbanized; this offered children and young people a good handful of undefined spaces \u2014vacant lots, rubble dumps, and construction areas\u2014 that they could freely use in their games, without being conditioned by the design and criteria of official urban planning. Already in the 80s, the irruption of drugs into life and of the \u201cyouth gangs\u201d the collective imagination of the neighborhood would end up putting the final touch to these infantile ways of inhabiting the city.     <\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2339\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2339\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Estudio-sobre-la-delincuencia-juvenil-en-LHospitalet-de-Llobregat-1976-1981-LVG19821119-045_detalle_web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2339\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/_imported\/26_1_1656614329.jpg\" alt=\"Article published in La Vanguardia on November 19, 1982.\" width=\"560\" height=\"608\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2339\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Article published in La Vanguardia on November 19, 1982. Of course, leisure is the enemy of productivity.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among that technical body and social knowledge that landed in neighborhoods like Bellvitge during those first years of democracy, in which the first social policies were put into operation as we know them today, sociology was also counted: in 1979 <strong>Pilar Ferran<\/strong>, then Deputy Mayor of Social Services of the L&#8217;Hospitalet City Council, commissioned the <strong>Obinso<\/strong> group to study juvenile delinquency in the city between 1976 and 1981. The report was carried out by the sociologists <g id=\"gid_2\">Llu\u00eds Ventosa<\/g> and <g id=\"gid_3\">Llu\u00eds Recolons<\/g> whom we incorporated as characters into the scene. During our research for the creation of <em><br \/>\n  <strong>Street Dogs<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em> we were able to interview Llu\u00eds Recolons:  <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VMGTF8oPh1o?list=PLd9Wm23vr5RjbYMWo7HAPwgU69-2-1-_m\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We can say that the social sciences not only objectively describe the phenomena they study \u2014for the case at hand, the young people of Bellvitge\u2014 but that, in a performative way, they produce and modulate them. Thus, we can say that texts like the one we mentioned construct a representation and a story about the young people of the neighborhood that in turn produce those forms of subjectivity that they examine. <\/p>\n<p>An analogous case could be that of <strong><br \/>\n  <em>The Young People of the Neighborhood<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>, a documentary made by the collective&nbsp;<strong>Video-Nou<\/strong> in 1982 that portrays the young people of the <strong>Canyelles<\/strong> neighborhood \u2014which in those years had very similar characteristics to those of Bellvitge\u2014. During the <g id=\"gid_2\">debate after the screening<\/g> of this same video that we screened last year during the cycle <g id=\"gid_3\"><br \/>\n  <g id=\"gid_4\"><br \/>\n    <g id=\"gid_5\">The city won, the city lost<\/g><br \/>\n  <\/g><br \/>\n<\/g> at the <g id=\"gid_6\">Institut Bellvitge<\/g>, <g id=\"gid_7\">Jorge Larrosa<\/g> observed that young people appeared represented only as a list of problems that required the intervention of the public administration. We must not forget that, although <g id=\"gid_8\">The Young People of the Neighborhood<\/g> has been largely seen within the art circuits, it was commissioned by the Institut de Reinserci\u00f3 Social, the \u00c0rea de Joventut and the \u00c0rea de Serveis Socials of the Ajuntament de Barcelona. Thus, during the 80s, not only the media and cinema contributed to producing a certain type of stories and imaginaries about the neighborhoods of the peripheries, and it would be worth asking what forms of control and governmentality these representations were useful for.   <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IEGT6ubwWOk\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>An example of this type of <em>performative signifiers<\/em> used by educators and social workers in the 80s was provided to us by <strong>Antonio Rosa<\/strong>, a social educator, member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/tres-reflexio-en-educacio-social.blogspot.com.es\/p\/gres.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n  <strong>Grup de Recerca en Educaci\u00f3 Social<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/a> (GRES) of the UB and a resident of Bellvitge, when in that same debate about <em>The young people of the neighborhood<\/em> he told us about the term <em>pre-delinquent<\/em>, which was then applied to young people who met a series of established indicators \u2014Antonio Rosa commented with hilarity, that he himself could have been considered a pre-delinquent according to these indicators\u2014. Here you can see part of the conversation we had in our space as part of the research for <em>Bellvitge live role-playing<\/em>: <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bdvHMaGjwcY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Throughout these months of research, we have seemed to perceive in Bellvitge \u2014and again Bellvitge serves as an example of many other working-class neighborhoods in the urban peripheries\u2014 a generational gap; on the one hand we have the individual and collective story of the older residents \u2014that of the first inhabitants who arrived in the neighborhood 50 years ago\u2014 which can be read as an epic and \u201csuccess\u201d story: it is almost a story of the pioneer, of the <em>self-made man,<\/em>  who narrates the departure from their towns of origin \u2014leaving behind the harsh living conditions in rural areas after the post-war period\u2014 the arrival in a new place in which everything was to be done and in which everything was conquered through struggle \u2014social rights, services, equipment, infrastructures\u2026 even democracy itself was conquered\u2014. To these factors we must add the ownership of the home \u2014which meant their first asset for many families\u2014 and a strong identity, based on the conservation of the linguistic and cultural uses of the places of origin. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2348\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2348\" style=\"width: 318px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Vivimos-en-Bellvitge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2348\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/_imported\/26_2_1656614330.jpg\" alt=\"We-live-in-Bellvitge\" width=\"318\" height=\"482\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This was the model of success, clearly masculine, heteropatriarchal and macho, with which the &#8216;owned&#8217; apartments of Bellvitge were announced in 1968. The aesthetics of the protagonists of the advertisement point to the promise of &#8216;becoming middle class&#8217; for the working classes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, however, the identity of the sons and daughters of those pioneers, as a social group, is a much less monolithic, more diverse identity, a <em>charnega<\/em>, cross-border, declassified identity in some cases \u2014the first generation, in many families, that learned Catalan in school and then pursued higher education\u2014; some of those young people clung to the neighborhood as their main sign of identity, and among these, some paid dearly for it.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it seems that the memory and identity of Bellvitge \u2014and of the working-class neighborhoods of the urban peripheries like Bellvitge\u2014 are only the memory and identity of those pioneers who built them. If, to a greater or lesser extent, this is so, it seems pertinent to us to ask about the effects that this may have had on subsequent generations and their connection with these territories, on the relationship of <em>the young people of the neighborhood<\/em> with their neighborhood. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2349\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2349\" style=\"width: 511px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/J%C3%B3venes-Perros-callejeros-patida.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2349\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/_imported\/26_3_1656614330.jpg\" alt=\"Young-Street-Dogs-game\" width=\"511\" height=\"287\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A group of players interprets, during the first game of &#8216;Street Dogs&#8217;, the role of young people from the neighborhood who meet during their leisure time in La Llar, the bar of the old Aula de Cultura of Bellvitge. The role-playing game allows you to adopt completely different identities from your own; in the game converge and intermingle, sometimes indistinguishably, the baggage, knowledge, opinions and beliefs of the players themselves with those of their characters, creating \u201cinterferences\u201d between the fictional \u2014although historicist\u2014 universe of the game and its \u2018real\u2019 framework of representation. These interferences are reinforced by the fact that part of the game scenarios correspond to the places where the historical events that are remembered in the game actually took place \u2014as is the case of the Cine Lumiere, currently a restaurant and a parking lot, or the Aula de Cultura, headquarters of various entities today\u2014.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":1168,"template":"","categories":[],"class_list":["post-5752","noticia","type-noticia","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/noticia\/5752","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/noticia"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/noticia"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1168"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5752"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lafundicio.net\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5752"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
