The fil rouge connecting multiple experiences from north to south, from east to west has represented the constitution of self-managed spaces – for culture, rights and socialization – as political counter-powers capable of challenging the hegemony of the state, of the parties and of the market. Since the 80s, the right to housing, underground cultures and anti-hierarchical policies have been the major focuses of these spaces and have led them to mix with each other the counter-memories that besiege Europe and to experiment with new battlefields for social and urban rights, for emancipation and political expression from below.

The networks at European level have been growing in recent years, allowing the development of common lexicons, militant strategies, exchange and constructive criticism as well as a translocal coordination of initiatives for an autonomous coordination of struggles on a global scale. The combination and composition of difference, the ability to translate experiences from one site to another and mutual respect have enabled the constitution of permanent links and alliances between experiences and also the constitution (virtual and non virtual) of coordination spaces with variable geometries of participation.

Starting from this stratification of experiences, the emerging projects of social centers are experiencing profound mutations, new ways of acting in the urban space. The metropolis is today a laboratory for new typologies of social centers: as embryonic universities of cognitive workers in the emerging framework of the production of knowledge, as nascent prototypes of social biosindicalism in the new framework of precarious work, not only for self-defense but also to claim new social and urban rights in the post-colonial and post-industrial city; and finally as autonomous processes trying to configure new forms of cooperative organization capable of making common the subjective surplus and capable of resisting expropriation and spoilage in the contemporary composition of living work.

In this framework, several social centers met last June in Ljubljana – in the Rog social center – for a preliminary articulation of a network between these new experiences. At the Ljubljana meeting, beyond the connection and exchange, we felt the need to open spaces for the collective discussion of some issues. That is why we decided to organize two meetings to continue advancing on the issues that were discussed.

In the first meeting, organized by Exit-Bcn and Ateneu Candela at the beginning of January 2009, we will discuss new forms of unionism in the European framework, and the strategies of autonomous projects for resources and fundraising. In the second meeting – the proposal is to hold it in the spring of 2009 in Rome – we will discuss self-training networks and the emergence of free universities. Finally, it will be the space to discuss and invent perspectives for networking and forms of network cooperation between autonomous spaces.

FIRST PART PROGRAM: SEMINAR ON BIOSINDICALISM. The combination and composition of difference, the ability to translate experiences from one place to another and the mutual respect made possible both the constitution of permanent links and alliances between experiences and also the constitution of (virtual and non-virtual) spaces of coordination with variable geometries of participation.

Starting from this stratification of experiences, the emerging projects of social centres are experimenting deep mutations, new forms of acting in the urban space. Metropolis is today a laboratory for new typologies of social centres: as embryonic universities of cognitive workers in the emerging framework of the production of knowledge, as nascent prototypes of social unionism in the new framework of precarious labour, not only for self-defence but also for demanding new social and urban rights in the postcolonial and post-industrial city; finally as autonomous processes trying to configure new forms of cooperative organization able to make common the subjective surplus and able to resist expropriation and exploitation in the contemporary composition of living labour.

In this framework, several social centres met last June in Ljubljana – in Social Centre Rog – for a preliminary articulation of a networking among these new experiences.
