Starting today and for three days (11<\/strong>, 12<\/strong> and 13<\/strong> of June<\/strong>) the
\n Montehermoso Cultural Center<\/a>
\n<\/strong> (Vitoria-Gasteiz<\/strong>) is hosting the
\n State of Emergency<\/em>
\n<\/strong> conference, which is presented with these intentions:<\/p>\n

The term \u201cemerging art\u201d has not only served to support a very specific type of creation, but has also facilitated the emergence of cultural policies and a new economic framework within the art world. But who decides what is emerging? Under what parameters? Is \u201cemergence\u201d a value in itself?<\/em><\/p>\n

Throughout these conferences, we will try to analyze what values have defined these practices, what influence they have had on contemporary productions, the political objectives that have been pursued in the name of \u201cyoung art,\u201d and what changes it has caused in the market. We will also analyze how these labels have affected creators and the possibility of developing \u201can artistic career.\u201d
\n<\/em>
\nIn a society dominated by the concepts of youth or fashion, it is necessary to generate a space in which to debate the validity of this type of \u201clabels\u201d in this new century and how they have transformed our cultural landscape.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

The questions and points proposed for the debate have been of particular interest to us, since they are directly linked to a part of what we want to raise in the project that we presented in the previous post<\/a>:
\n Intruder Zone 2<\/a>
\n<\/strong>. Specifically – within the discursive framework of the project – we hope that these questions will be raised around the figure of Efr\u00e9n \u00c1lvarez<\/strong>, since his position in the field of art may correspond quite closely to that of the “emerging artist.” <\/p>\n

We will try to extract more information about the conclusions of these conferences to add it to the wiki of Intruder Zone 2<\/a>; we’ll see if it can be done. Full program of the presentations after the jump. <\/p>\n
